Tide is in.
Tide is out.

Mutoscopes are being used to show educational nature films in the Visitor's Centre.

The centre commissioned a photographer to record the tides coming in and out of the bay, forming a time lapse record for the whole day.

We converted the resulting images into a Mutoscope picture reel, which is now playing on Mutoscopes installed in their visitor's centre.

It's particularly interesting and fun for children, as they can control the time sequence to play at different speeds, by turning the handle on the machine at different rates.

The Mutoscope was featured in the BBC TV series, "What The Victorians Did For Us", a documentary about Victorian inventions that paved the way for modern life.

In the episode, "Pleasure Seekers", the show focussed on developments in film and photography that became a new form of entertainment.

To demonstrate the Mutoscope for television, Adam Hart-Davis filmed himself dressed up as a "strong man", (show above), as tribute to Sandow, a famous body builder and performer of the era.

We converted the film into a picture-card reel, which was then shown running on the Mutoscope.
