Before the invention of the cinema projector,
movies were shown as individually printed picture cards
on a rotating drum.
The new improved Mutoscope uses this authentic method
to provide a charming viewing experience.
It's the original virtual reality.
Free Standing
The most popular choice. Although the machine will stand unaided, in some locations it would be advisable to secure the machine to a wall to prevent over-enthusiastic people knocking it over or running off with it. The money collects in the base which has an ingenious security system to frustrate the thieves.

Wall Mounted
The machine is secured to a wall using a very large and strong hinge. Once installed, the hinging system allows easy access to the rear of the machine for collection of money or changing the reel of picture cards.
| Total weight approx. | 43kg |
When installed, the top should be 2000mm from the floor. Built as one piece (base is connected to the top in the factory). Money collection door is accessible from the back of the machine.

Child Friendly
A step allows children to reach up and peer into the viewing piece. Adult supervision is advisable to prevent children falling off the step. The step has a space beneath it which will allow adults to stand against the machine and use it.

Colour
We are happy to build a machine in any colour. If you feel that a particular space needs a particular colour to help keep its decor, please tell us. Shown below is a sample of some of the more popular colours. if you need something different please tell us.
Please note that due to limitations in on-screen colour reproduction, the actual colour may vary significantly from those shown on your computer monitor. Please contact us if you would like samples of colour sent to you. We can also apply whatever colour you specify.
The Reset
All three versions are available with or without a reset system. If a customer left a reel of picture cards uncompleted, there is a system which will reset the reel back to the beginning after a wait of two minutes.
This will ensure that the next customer does not pay to view only a part of the story. However most customers want to make sure that they see as much as they can for their money and usually watch to the end of the reel. When the reel is watched to the end, it is left in the ideal place for the next customer and there is no need of a reset.
The Coin
Choose the denomination of a coin that you wish the Mutoscope to accept. The solid brass instruction plates are beautiful and give the Mutoscope a timeless quality.
The Mutoscope can be fitted with either a "free go" push button or a business card collecting system. The viewer receives a free show and is presented with your advertisement.
The Mechanism
The Mutoscope uses the authentic picture card method employed by turn of the century Mutoscope machines.

The illusion of movement is achieved by having picture cards mounted on a rotating drum, each image being slightly different from the preceeding image. As the viewer turns the handle, the drum is rotated and the images 'flick' past the view-finder, which the human eye and brain 'sees' as a a movie image.
Show Your Film on the Mutoscope
A conversion service is available for transferring video material onto picture cards for showing on the Mutoscope.
Provide film clips on VHS tape, DV or as a set of computer image files on CD-ROM, in any common format (JPEG, TIFF, etc.)
Each reel can take up to 600 frames, or about a minute's playing time at 10 frames per second.
